Tinubu Departs for Historic UK State Visit

President Bola Tinubu has departed Abuja for a state visit to the United Kingdom, marking the first such trip by a Nigerian leader in 37 years.

The President, accompanied by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and senior government officials, left the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Tuesday morning.

During the visit, Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and attend engagements hosted by King Charles III.

According to officials, the visit is aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, with discussions covering trade, investment, defence, and cultural cooperation.

A major highlight of the trip is the planned signing of a £746 million financing agreement involving the Nigerian Ports Authority to support the rehabilitation of key port infrastructure, including facilities in Lagos.

The President is also scheduled to participate in engagements with business leaders and members of the Nigerian diaspora, as well as attend cultural events showcasing Nigerian heritage. He is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the visit.
