FG to Launch “Renewed Hope Creative Villages” Nationwide

The Federal Government has unveiled plans to establish creative hubs in every state across Nigeria, titled “Renewed Hope Creative Villages,” aimed at boosting the creative industry and preserving historical sites.

This announcement was made by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during a press briefing following the 147th National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja and chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Launch of “Renewed Hope Creative Villages”

Governor Sanwo-Olu shared that the Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy has proposed the development of these villages, which will focus on transforming historical locations into thriving creative hubs.

According to the governor, the initiative will involve collaboration with state governments to identify and revitalize historic sites into one-stop creative centers.

He stated:

“The ministry is working with sub-nationals to identify historic locations that can be adopted as creative villages. This initiative seeks to showcase the vast opportunities within the creative industry, especially in our rural historic sites and monuments.

“We believe this project can generate hundreds of thousands of jobs by tapping into the potential of the creative industry and our heritage sites,” he added.

At the same briefing, Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, provided updates on state and federal government financial positions.

Minister Edun revealed that states owe the Federal Government N16.6 billion in debts, while states hold surpluses of N363.4 billion with the federal government.

Updates on Key Accounts

• Excess Crude Account: $424 million as of December 10, 2024.
• Stabilization Account: N33.3 billion.
• Natural Resources Account: N23 billion.

The NEC meeting also revealed that most of the 36 state governors have expressed support for the creation of state police to address security challenges. Submissions from the governors on this matter will be considered at the next NEC meeting in January 2025.
