Wike-Aligned PDP Hails Court Ruling, Calls for Party Unity

The Nyesom Wike-backed National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples’ Democratic Party has welcomed a Federal High Court ruling that affirmed its legitimacy as the party’s leadership, urging members to embrace unity, reconciliation and respect for due process.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led committee described the judgment as a victory for constitutionalism and internal democracy. The court, sitting in Ibadan, invalidated the PDP national convention held in November 2025 and ordered Kabiru Turaki and others to stop presenting themselves as national officers of the party.

Justice Uche Agomoh ruled that the caretaker committee led by Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the recognised leadership of the PDP until a valid national convention is conducted. The decision followed months of internal disputes, with PDP governors previously backing the Ibadan convention that produced a rival National Working Committee.

The Wike-aligned faction maintained that legitimacy can only be derived from adherence to the party’s constitution, valid court orders and established legal processes. The committee congratulated its supporters for remaining law-abiding throughout the crisis and called on aggrieved members to embrace reconciliation.

The statement also commended the judiciary for upholding the rule of law and urged party members to focus on rebuilding cohesion ahead of future elections. Meanwhile, the Turaki-led faction has indicated plans to challenge the ruling through legal channels.

The leadership tussle has resulted in multiple court cases and uncertainty over official recognition by the electoral body. The caretaker committee expressed optimism that unity and dialogue would strengthen the party and restore stability moving forward.
