Abure-Led Labour Party Faction Moves to Appeal Court Ruling
The faction of the Labour Party led by Julius Abure has announced plans to appeal a Federal High Court judgment that recognised a caretaker committee headed by Senator Nenadi Usman.
The group described the ruling as contradictory to previous decisions of the Supreme Court, which it said clearly established that courts lack the power to impose leadership on political parties.
In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, the Abure-led faction argued that leadership disputes remain internal party affairs and should not be determined by the judiciary.
The group also questioned the court’s conclusion that a leadership vacuum existed within the party, insisting that a valid national convention had been held before the expiration of its tenure.
It further alleged procedural irregularities during the trial, including the denial of an opportunity to respond fully to opposing filings.
While reaffirming its commitment to legal redress, the Abure-led leadership urged party members to remain calm, insisting that it would pursue justice through lawful means.
