Transparency Concerns Raised Over Tinubu’s Foreign Engagements

Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has criticised the Presidency over what he described as a recurring failure to disclose the return dates of President Bola Tinubu’s foreign trips. Ibe’s comments followed the announcement that Tinubu would depart Abuja for a state visit to Turkey on Monday, January 26, 2026, without an accompanying return date.

According to the Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and explore cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, aviation, finance, trade, and investment. The agenda will include meetings between high-level officials and the signing of memoranda of understanding in areas such as scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media, and military collaboration.

Ibe questioned the recurring lack of clarity on the President’s travel schedules, suggesting it could allow for unplanned stops abroad. He highlighted the need for transparency in public office and the importance of providing Nigerians with clear information on state engagements.
