Makinde Says Speaking Truth to Power Has Become Difficult Under Tinubu
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, saying governance under the current dispensation has made it increasingly difficult for leaders to openly challenge policies and decisions.
Makinde made the remarks at a public event, where he contrasted the present situation with what he described as a more consultative governance style under the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He expressed concern over the handling of recent tax reform legislation, arguing that governors and other stakeholders were not adequately consulted before the bills were transmitted to the National Assembly.
According to the governor, uncertainty still surrounds the final content of the tax laws, including what was passed by lawmakers and what eventually received presidential assent.
Makinde also praised the leadership style of former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, noting that his role at the National Economic Council influenced key decisions taken by state governors during the COVID-19 crisis.
