The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has announced Bala Yunusa Mohammed as its new National Chairman following the resignation of former chairman Dr Ajuji Ahmed, who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The appointment was approved by the party’s National Working Committee as political parties continue realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued in Abuja, NNPP National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson said the new chairman, a former National Organising Secretary from Kaduna State, possesses the experience needed to guide the party through the present political climate.

He said: “The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party is pleased to announce the election of Bala Yunusa Mohammed as our new National Chairman.”
The party also acknowledged the exit of Ajuji Ahmed, thanking him for his service during his time in office.

Johnson stated: “The NNPP takes this opportunity to formally acknowledge the departure of Dr Ajuji Ahmed, who has resigned his appointment to join the African Democratic Congress. We thank Dr Ajuji Ahmed for his dedicated service and sincerely wish him the very best in his future political endeavours.”

The party described the leadership transition as coming at a crucial time, citing economic hardship and growing political tension across the country.

It expressed confidence that Mohammed would strengthen party structures and improve its chances in future elections.

According to Johnson, “We have absolute confidence that our new chairman will steer this great party through these turbulent waters with integrity and courage.”
The NNPP called on members and supporters nationwide to rally behind the new leadership as preparations intensify for the 2027 polls.
