APC Targets Six Million New Members as Rivers E-Registration Begins

The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has launched its electronic membership registration exercise, setting a target of enrolling about six million new members.

The state chairman of the party, Tony Okocha, disclosed this during the official flag-off of the exercise and the training of local government supervisors and ward agents in Port Harcourt.

Okocha acknowledged that Rivers State began the registration later than some other states but expressed confidence that the party would surpass others before the exercise concludes at the end of January.

He explained that the electronic registration process was designed to eliminate irregularities, including fake entries, stressing that all registrants must be physically present and properly documented.

According to him, the party’s previous claim of registering over 12 million members nationwide did not translate into electoral performance, prompting the adoption of a more credible and transparent system.

Okocha urged supervisors and registration agents to carry out the exercise diligently and without discrimination, emphasizing that all Nigerians willing to join the party should be allowed to do so.

He also reassured party members that the APC remains strong in Rivers State.

The party’s state secretary, Eric Nwibani, said the registration drive was aimed at improving Rivers State’s standing among other states in terms of membership strength. He added that the party hopes to surpass Kano State in total registered members by the end of the exercise.

The state coordinator of the e-registration training programme, Silva Sanwi, said the APC is working with the National Identity Management Commission to ensure data accuracy and a seamless registration process.
