FG Begins Evacuation of Nigerians from Iran

The Federal Government has begun evacuating Nigerians in Iran as tensions escalate in the Middle East.

Officials of the Nigerian embassy in Tehran have started escorting willing Nigerians to the Armenian border to ensure their safe passage out of the country.

Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the evacuation is being coordinated by embassy officials who are assisting citizens seeking to leave the country.

She noted that no Nigerian in Iran has been reported harmed since the conflict escalated.

Authorities explained that air evacuation is currently not possible because the airspace in parts of the region remains unsafe for flights.

A government emergency response team has been placed on standby to conduct repatriation flights once conditions improve and airspace restrictions are lifted.

The crisis began after coordinated military strikes on Iran triggered retaliatory missile and drone attacks, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
