Minister Says Atiku–Obi Ticket Unlikely to Unseat Tinubu in 2027

The Minister of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has dismissed speculation that a joint presidential ticket involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi could defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Speaking during a podcast interview, Musawa described Atiku as a strong political figure but argued that he would still struggle to overcome the ruling party’s political machinery in the next election cycle.

She said a potential alliance between Atiku and Obi would not significantly improve the opposition’s chances and could instead deepen internal divisions, particularly among Obi’s support base. According to her, many of Obi’s supporters may resist any arrangement that places him in a secondary role.

Musawa also warned that presenting Obi as the presidential candidate could further weaken the opposition’s prospects, describing such a move as politically damaging.

Her comments come amid growing debate within opposition circles over coalition strategies ahead of 2027, with disagreements emerging over candidate selection and party leadership direction.
