Suspected armed bandits have abducted a retired Major General, Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, alongside his wife in Katsina State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday along the Katsina–Matazu road while the retired senior military officer was travelling with his wife.

According to reports, the vehicle conveying them was intercepted by armed men in Matazu Local Government Area before they were taken to an unknown destination.

A source further disclosed that the driver of the vehicle escaped the attack with a gunshot injury.

Maj-Gen Abubakar (retd) previously served as the military spokesperson, where he played a prominent role in defence communications within the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The latest abduction adds to growing concerns over insecurity in the North-West, particularly Katsina State, which has witnessed repeated cases of kidnappings and armed attacks targeting both residents and travellers.

Security authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
