Oyo APC Demands Makinde’s Resignation Over Insecurity Claims

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for the resignation of Governor Seyi Makinde, over his comments on the worsening security situation in the state, escalating political tensions in the region.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Olawale Sadare, the party accused the governor of misrepresenting the constitutional responsibilities of state governors in addressing insecurity, insisting that his remarks amounted to shifting responsibility.

The APC said Makinde’s claim that governors have limited control over security agencies was misleading, describing his position as “a height of cluelessness, insincerity and criminal ineptitude.”

According to the party, the governor’s comments were inappropriate and showed an attempt to avoid accountability for rising insecurity challenges in Oyo State.

The opposition party went further to demand Makinde’s resignation, arguing that he had failed in his constitutional duty to protect lives and property. It also suggested that his deputy should take over and complete the remaining tenure.

The criticism follows remarks reportedly made by Makinde during a political event in Ibadan, where he said state governors do not have full authority over security agencies and therefore face limitations in responding to kidnappings and attacks.

The APC strongly rejected the explanation, insisting that leadership responsibility cannot be shifted regardless of federal security structure constraints.
