INEC Extends Osun Campaign Deadline After Poll Date Shift

The Independent National Electoral Commission has adjusted the campaign timetable for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election after shifting the poll date by one week.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the commission said it had earlier moved the election from August 8, 2026, to August 15, 2026, as part of its revised timetable and schedule of activities.

INEC said the new poll date automatically affected the deadline for campaigns by political parties in the state.

“Recall that on the 26th of February 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission issued the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election and adjusted the Osun State Governorship Election forward by one week from the 8th of August 2026 to the 15th,” the statement read.

According to the commission, the last day for political campaigns is now midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

“As a result of this adjustment, the last day for political parties’ campaigns in the state is now midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in line with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which provides that campaigns shall end 24 hours prior to election day,” INEC stated.

The electoral body urged political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to comply fully with the updated timetable.

“The Commission urges all political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the revised timeline.”

INEC also reaffirmed its commitment to credible elections across the country, saying it remains focused on conducting free, fair, credible and inclusive polls.
