JUST IN : Nigerian Army reacts to alleged attack on Bishop Kukah

The Nigerian Army’s 8 Division has responded to reports alleging an attack on the residence of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, as well as the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral.

In a statement issued by Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on Saturday, the Army dismissed the claim as false.

The Division, which operates under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, described the report circulating on Facebook as misleading and without basis.

It maintained that no such attack took place in Sokoto State, adding that both Bishop Kukah and the Catholic Cathedral are safe and secure.

The Army further noted that the Bishop is currently observing his Easter religious activities without any disruption.

It called on the public to ignore the report and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of inciting panic among residents.

Reaffirming its commitment to security, the Division stated that it is working closely with other agencies to ensure the safety of citizens within its Area of Responsibility.

The Army also disclosed that adequate security arrangements have been implemented across Sokoto State to ensure a peaceful Easter celebration.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that soldiers have been deployed to the Bishop’s residence to strengthen security in the area.
