Governor’s chief of staff escapes death as bandits attack convoy
Gunmen believed to be bandits on Thursday evening attacked the convoy of the Zamfara State Governor’s Chief of Staff, Mouktar Lugga, along the Funtua–Gusau highway.
The attack happened at about 6:16 p.m. near Kucheri village as Lugga was heading back to Gusau after attending an official function.
According to a report by security analyst Zagozola Makama, sources said the attackers suddenly appeared from both sides of the road and began shooting at the vehicle carrying the chief of staff, his driver, and two other occupants.
One of the bullets reportedly shattered the vehicle’s windshield, narrowly missing the driver. Another assailant was said to have tried firing at close range, but the weapon did not go off.
In spite of the ambush, the driver successfully navigated the vehicle out of danger, ensuring that all occupants escaped without injury.
