LIRS extends tax return deadlineto April 14

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual tax returns to April 14, 2026, giving taxpayers additional time to comply.

The agency said the extension is aimed at allowing individuals to accurately complete and submit their returns, while stressing that timely filing remains a statutory obligation.

It reiterated that all tax returns must be filed electronically through its eTax platform, as manual submissions have been completely phased out.

LIRS also advised taxpayers to verify the accuracy of their Tax Identification Numbers (TaxID) to avoid delays or processing errors.

The directive applies to all income earners, including salaried workers, business owners, self-employed individuals, professionals, and those in the informal sector.

Under existing regulations, taxpayers are required to declare earnings from January 1 to December 31, 2025, within the first 90 days of the new assessment year.

The extension follows an earlier adjustment by the agency, which moved the deadline for employers’ annual returns from February 1 to February 7.

The development comes amid ongoing tax reforms in Nigeria aimed at improving compliance and modernising the revenue system.
