Suspected bandits bomb bridge in Niger

Suspected bandits have bombed a bridge along Luma Road, cutting off access between Luma, Babana, and Agwara communities in Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred early Monday, disrupting movement and crippling the Babana major border market, which is held every Monday.

According to sources, the bridge attack is part of a series of recent violent incidents affecting Borgu and Agwara LGAs, where terrorist activities have been ongoing for several months.

In a related incident, a vehicle travelling between Nuku and Woro reportedly struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists, killing all occupants.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the bombing.

Spokesman Wasiu Abiodun said, “Suspected terrorists within the Park Forest used an explosive device and bombed a bridge located along Luma Road, Borgu LGA, connecting Luma-Babana-Agwara communities.

It was discovered that the bridge was damaged by the hoodlums during security operations in the area. Monitoring continues while clearance operations are intensified.”
