Dangote refinery exports 456,000 tonnes of fuel to African markets

Lagos – The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has exported 456,000 tonnes of refined petroleum products to several African countries, marking a significant milestone in its operations.

The company disclosed on Sunday that it completed the sale of 12 cargoes of refined products, shipped to countries including Ghana, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon and Tanzania.

According to the refinery, the exports followed its attainment of a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day in February, signalling its entry into large-scale international supply.

“The products were sold on a FOB (Free on Board) basis to end international traders for deliveries to the above-identified countries of export,” the company said.

It added, “This accomplishment underscores the Dangote Refinery’s capability to not only meet but exceed Nigeria’s domestic fuel demands. It also demonstrates the refinery’s growing role in supplying high-quality Euro 5 gasoline and diesel to West Africa — a region long underserved and historically regarded as a dumping ground for lower-quality fuels.”

The refinery noted that its expanding export footprint is expected to strengthen energy security across West, East and Central Africa, while reducing reliance on distant fuel imports.

It further stated that closer regional sourcing would help ease logistics challenges, cut supply delays, and lower cost pressures in fuel markets, while deepening trade ties between Nigeria and other African economies.
