Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Democracy, Pledges Good Governance

President Bola Tinubu has described himself as a “die-hard democrat,” pledging to uphold democracy and the rule of law in Nigeria.

Speaking at an inter-faith breaking of the fast with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee and leaders of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized the importance of unity and good governance.

He stated that internal democracy within political parties is critical for credible elections and encouraged the use of direct primaries to give party members greater participation in selecting candidates.

“The majority will have their way, and the minority will have their say and their way. I must not stand in their way. That is the sweetness, the essence of democracy,” Tinubu said.

The President also reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, noting that he has consistently supported the party both in government and in opposition.

APC Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda commended Tinubu for his leadership and pledged the party’s support in realizing his vision for Nigeria. IPAC Chairman Yusuf Dantalle appealed for reconsideration of the National Identity Number (NIN) as a voter registration requirement and requested the restoration of electoral funding for political parties.
