Wike Pledges Cooperation With FCT Area Council Chairmen

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pledged to work closely with the newly elected chairmen of the six Federal Capital Territory Area Councils.

Wike made the commitment in Abuja during a meeting with the incoming council leaders who visited his office to collect their certificates of return ahead of their swearing-in scheduled for June.

The minister emphasised that political differences would not obstruct governance and development in the capital.

He said cooperation between the FCT Administration and the incoming council officials would be guided by what he described as a “rainbow coalition”.

According to him, effective governance requires collaboration among stakeholders regardless of party affiliation.

Wike noted that the FCT Administration has continued to engage leaders across political divides in order to achieve development goals in the territory.

He acknowledged that candidates aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received government support during the elections but stated that officials from other parties who share similar objectives would also be involved in the administration’s development plans.

The minister urged the incoming chairmen to prepare for their responsibilities and assured them of the administration’s cooperation once they assume office.

He also commended outgoing council leaders for their service and wished them success in their future endeavours.

The All Progressives Congress won five of the six chairmanship seats in the February 21 Area Council elections across the Federal Capital Territory.

The party secured victories in Abuja Municipal Area Council, Abaji, Bwari, Kwali, and Kuje, while the Peoples Democratic Party won the chairmanship seat in Gwagwalada.
