Arsenal Extend Title Lead After Saka Seals Win Over Brighton

Arsenal strengthened their grip on the Premier League title race after Bukayo Saka’s first-half strike secured a narrow 1–0 victory against Brighton.

The 24-year-old forward marked his 300th appearance for the club with the decisive goal at the Amex Stadium, helping the league leaders extend their advantage at the top of the table.

Although the performance lacked flair for long stretches, Arsenal’s disciplined defensive display ensured they held on for the crucial win. The result moved them seven points clear of second-placed Manchester City.

Earlier in the day, City were held to a surprising 2–2 draw by Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium, leaving Arsenal firmly in control of the title race.

While City still have a game in hand and will host Arsenal later in the season, the Gunners’ recent run of form has strengthened belief that they can maintain their lead. The team has now recorded three consecutive league victories after facing criticism over their ability to handle pressure in the title battle.

Arsenal previously lost significant leads in the title race in both 2023 and 2024, allowing Manchester City to claim the championship on those occasions. This season, however, they appear to be handling the challenge with greater maturity as they chase their first league title since 2004.

Brighton nearly gifted Arsenal an early scare when goalkeeper David Raya misplaced a pass inside the opening minutes. Carlos Baleba attempted to capitalise with a long-range lob, but Gabriel Magalhaes managed to clear the ball before it crossed the goal line.

Arsenal responded quickly and found the breakthrough in the ninth minute. Saka collected the ball on the right flank, drove toward the edge of the penalty area and unleashed a powerful shot. The effort deflected off Baleba and slipped through goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen’s legs to give Arsenal the lead.

Despite the goal, Arsenal struggled to impose themselves during the first half, producing limited attacking chances. Brighton increased the pressure after the break as they searched for an equaliser.

Georginio Rutter came close with a well-struck half-volley that forced Raya into an important save. Yankuba Minteh also threatened with a driving run into the penalty area before firing a shot that deflected narrowly wide. Jack Hinshelwood later headed over from close range in another missed opportunity.

Arsenal were without defender William Saliba due to an ankle injury, but the visitors held firm as Brighton pushed forward in the closing stages.

The victory kept Arsenal firmly on course in the title race while maintaining momentum across multiple competitions this season.
