Wike Affirms Loyalty to PDP, Optimistic About Party’s Revival

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reiterated his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and expressed confidence that the party will overcome its current challenges.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, Wike stressed that he will act according to his convictions, prioritizing public interest over political expediency. “I am not going to pretend. I will do what I believe is right,” he said.

On government roles, the minister emphasized the importance of each official performing their designated functions. “If I am the minister, let me function as the minister. If I am the senator, let me function as the senator. Everyone should play their role,” he stated.

Addressing concerns about PDP’s future, Wike admitted there were challenges but affirmed his belief in the party’s resurgence. “Yes, I am worried about my party. But do I believe the PDP will rise again? Yes, it will rise again,” he said.

Wike also dismissed the notion that controlling a large number of governors is necessary to win a presidential election, adding that leadership requires compromise and perspective. “Leadership is about give and take. You cannot always be right,” he said.

He highlighted tangible achievements in the FCT, noting that the satisfaction of residents and visible government impact bring him joy.

Currently, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governs 30 states, while the PDP holds three. Other parties, including the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Labour Party, and Accord Party, govern one state each.
