BREAKING: Adamawa Governor Umaru Fintiri Defects to APC

Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Announcing the move in a state broadcast on Friday, Fintiri said he brought along all his cabinet members, appointees, and elected local government chairmen.

The governor explained that the defection was made in the interest of Adamawa residents and national unity, emphasizing the need for alignment with the Federal Government to advance development priorities.

The development follows the resignation of Speaker Wesley Bathiya and 14 other lawmakers from the PDP earlier in the week. Bathiya read letters of resignation during plenary, confirming the exit of the legislators.

One of the defecting lawmakers, Mahmud Kallamu, chairman of the House Committee on Information, described the defection as strategic. An APC source noted that the party would welcome the new members if they formalize their entry.

This realignment adds to the shifting political landscape in Adamawa ahead of future elections, signaling potential influence on state and national politics.
