First Lady’s Warri Visit Bolsters Delta Peace, Development-Otuaro

The head of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dennis Otuaro, has stated that the recent visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, to the Warri Kingdom serves as a boost to ongoing development initiatives in Delta State.

In a statement released through his media office, Otuaro described the visit as timely and beneficial, noting that it reinforces the state government’s programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting stability in the oil-producing region.

He expressed confidence that the First Lady’s presence in Warri would contribute to sustained peace and encourage further collaboration among stakeholders working to advance security and socio-economic progress in the Niger Delta.

Otuaro said her public engagements reflect values of unity and reconciliation, which he linked to the broader policy direction of President Bola Tinubu. He added that such efforts help strengthen national cohesion while supporting development at the grassroots level.

He also praised the First Lady’s social intervention platform, the Renewed Hope Initiative, describing it as a compassionate programme that continues to provide assistance to vulnerable citizens across the country. According to him, the initiative has the potential to leave a lasting imprint on communities through its empowerment and welfare-focused activities.

Otuaro further observed that the initiative aligns with the policy thrust of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whose administration is pursuing reforms centred on inclusive growth, economic opportunity, and improved security in the state.

He noted that many residents view the First Lady as closely connected to the region and said her achievements and interventions would likely inspire greater civic participation and optimism among the people.

Highlighting the work of the Amnesty Programme, Otuaro disclosed that since he assumed office in 2024, more than 9,000 students have been sponsored for tertiary education in Nigeria and abroad in disciplines considered critical to national development and industrial growth.

The Presidential Amnesty Programme was introduced in 2009 as part of efforts to end armed agitation in the Niger Delta by disarming and reintegrating former militants. Over time, the initiative has evolved into a broader platform focused on education, vocational training, and empowerment schemes intended to support lasting peace and economic advancement in the region.
