Joint Revenue Board Reports High Satisfaction With New Tax ID Portal

The Joint Revenue Board says more than 98 per cent of users who retrieved their Tax Identification Numbers through the newly launched national portal reported a seamless experience.

The Board disclosed this in a statement on the implementation of Nigeria’s tax reforms, noting that the portal serves as a unified taxpayer database designed to harmonise records across federal and state systems.

The platform allows individuals to generate a unique 13-digit Tax ID using their National Identity Numbers, while businesses can retrieve theirs using registration details from the Corporate Affairs Commission and other approved agencies.

According to the Board, the system is intended to improve coordination, strengthen revenue administration, and enhance data security across the tax ecosystem.

Head of the JRB Help Desk, Effiong Abasifreke, said feedback gathered through questionnaires and interviews showed that most users found the portal fast, simple to navigate, and convenient.

Executive Secretary Olusegun Adesokan urged taxpayers who have not yet retrieved their IDs to do so, assuring that the system includes strong safeguards in line with regulations of the Nigerian Data Protection Commission.

He also dismissed claims that banks could use the Tax ID framework to deduct funds arbitrarily, insisting that the reforms are designed to support growth while protecting low-income earners.
