ICPC Raids El-Rufai’s Abuja Residence Amid Investigation
Officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Thursday conducted a search of the Abuja home of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.
According to his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, the ICPC team arrived at around 2 p.m. and immediately began searching the property. El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Akpan, denounced the operation as “unlawful” and a breach of legal rights.
The raid comes after ICPC confirmed on Wednesday that El-Rufai was in its custody as part of an ongoing probe, although the commission did not provide details of the case. The former governor has faced prior engagements with security agencies, including a visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission headquarters over alleged financial irregularities during his tenure from 2015 to 2023.
Reports indicated an attempted arrest upon his return from Cairo, Egypt, and subsequent charges by the Department of State Services for allegedly intercepting the National Security Adviser’s communications, in breach of the 2024 Cybercrimes (Amendment) Act.
