Lawmakers’ Spokesman Welcomes Nigeria–US Security Cooperation

The Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has praised the expanding security collaboration between Nigeria and the United States following the arrival of American military personnel to assist Nigerian forces.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the lawmaker described the development as a significant step in strengthening Nigeria’s campaign against insurgency, banditry and organised crime. Defence officials indicated that the US personnel are providing training and intelligence support to local troops engaged in operations against militant groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State’s regional affiliate.

Agbese said the cooperation demonstrates rising international confidence in the administration of President Bola Tinubu and reflects a more strategic approach to global security partnerships.

He added that improved collaboration with Washington would enhance intelligence gathering, strengthen technical capacity and boost coordination across Nigeria’s armed forces. According to him, recent military reforms and joint operations are already yielding measurable gains on the battlefield.

While acknowledging concerns about foreign troop presence, the legislator insisted the arrangement was initiated by Nigeria and aligns with national interests. He said the partnership signals a more proactive diplomatic posture and a stronger commitment to safeguarding the country.
