FG Has No Interest in Prosecuting El-Rufai — Inibehe

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has stated that the Federal Government shows no intention of prosecuting former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. El-Rufai faces cybercrime allegations for allegedly intercepting the communications of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

Effiong noted that the charges filed by the State Security Services (SSS) lack necessary particulars, such as equipment details and dates, questioning the seriousness of the prosecution. The three-count charges relate to unlawful interception of communications and national security breaches under the Cybercrimes Act 2024 and the Nigerian Communications Act 2003. No arraignment date has been set.

El-Rufai, who previously supported President Bola Tinubu, later became a critic after falling out politically and joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to oppose Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
