Peter Obi Joins Protest Demanding Real-Time Transmission of Election Results

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi joined protesters at the National Assembly in Abuja, calling on lawmakers to explicitly mandate real-time electronic transmission of election results in proposed electoral amendments.

The demonstration followed the passage of an amended electoral bill in which references to “real-time” transmission were removed. Protesters argue that the omission weakens transparency and could enable manipulation.

Obi said lawmakers must act to prevent a repeat of technical failures experienced during the last general elections, stressing that real-time transmission is critical to restoring public confidence in the electoral process.

Civil society groups, opposition party members and women’s organisations took part in the protest, which began at the Federal Secretariat and proceeded toward the National Assembly under heavy security presence.

Demonstrators insisted they would continue to press their demands until the legislation is revised to clearly mandate electronic transmission without ambiguity.
