Frank Onyeka Targets Premier League Promotion with Coventry

New Coventry City midfielder Frank Onyeka has set his sights on helping the Championship leaders secure promotion to the Premier League following his loan move from Brentford.

Coventry finalized the signing on Monday as part of a January transfer window deal, which includes an obligation to buy if the club achieves promotion. The 28-year-old midfielder expressed excitement and readiness to make an impact.

“I’m very happy to be here. I aim to give 100 per cent, share my experience, and help Coventry City return to the Premier League,” Onyeka said. “I’m ready to give my all for the team and the city.”

Coventry coach Frank Lampard is understood to hold Onyeka in high regard as the Sky Blues chase top-flight promotion. The club currently leads the Championship table with 58 points, level on points with Middlesbrough but ahead on goal difference.

Onyeka has made 75 Premier League appearances for Brentford since 2021, contributing to their historic ninth-place finish in 2022/23. He has also earned 41 caps for Nigeria and was instrumental in the Super Eagles’ third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Before joining Brentford, Onyeka played for Danish club Midtjylland, winning two Danish Superliga titles and the 2018/19 Danish Cup, while also featuring in UEFA Champions League and Europa League competitions.
