INEC Begins 50-Day Voter Registration Exercise Across Akwa Ibom
The Independent National Electoral Commission has commenced a 50-day Continuous Voter Registration exercise across all 329 wards in Akwa Ibom State as part of efforts to deepen grassroots participation in the electoral process.
INEC’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity in the state, Bukola Ojeme, said the exercise began on Monday and will be conducted at ward-level collation centres, with two wards attended to daily in each local government area.
Ojeme explained that during the period, registration activities at local government offices would be suspended, except at the state headquarters, as officials move voter enrolment devices across wards to ensure full coverage. He assured residents that no ward would be excluded from the exercise.
He also warned that only officially approved ward centres would be used, stressing that INEC would not tolerate registration at unauthorised locations. Eligible voters, particularly those in rural areas, were urged to take advantage of the opportunity.
