Katsina State Unveils ₦155bn Housing and Agro-Residential Project
The Katsina State Government has clarified that its ₦155 billion investment to build 3,500 housing units in Kankia and Charanchi Local Government Areas will provide affordable homes, create employment, and promote agricultural development.
The state signed a Memorandum of Agreement with COSMOS Residential City Nigeria Limited to deliver the housing units alongside an innovative aquaculture and vegetable farming initiative. The project aims to empower thousands of youths, provide income-generating opportunities, and boost agriculture, all at no direct cost to the government.
Alhaji Falalu Bawale, Head of Service, explained that the consultant will recover investment costs through the sale of agricultural produce while providing participants with training and a monthly stipend of ₦200,000. Houses will be allocated to beneficiaries from all 34 local government areas, fostering inclusive development.
Governor Malam Dikko Radda stated that 2,500 units will be constructed in Kankia, and 1,000 units in Charanchi’s Radda community, combining modern housing with backyard fish farming and vegetable gardens. Beneficiaries will gradually own the homes and farms over three to five years by contributing between ₦50,000 and ₦70,000 in savings monthly.
The project is scheduled for completion within 16 months to two years, with COSMOS already mobilizing to commence work.
