Former Ondo Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi Returns to APC

Former Deputy Governor of Ondo State and governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi, has rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a return to the party he described as his original political home.

Ajayi formally announced his defection at his ward in Kiribo, Ese Odo Local Government Area, where party supporters and leaders received him back into the fold.

The former lawmaker had previously left the APC after falling out with the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, under whom he served as deputy. He later joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and emerged as its candidate in the last governorship election in the state.

Speaking at a gathering in Igbekebo, Ajayi said his decision to return was driven by the need to focus on broader national interests rather than personal or political disagreements. He pledged his full support for the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and President Bola Tinubu.

Ajayi noted that while political contests often involve intense rivalry, propaganda, and personal attacks, governance ultimately requires unity and collaboration. He said he had reconciled with Governor Aiyedatiwa and emphasised that the development of Ondo State and Nigeria must take precedence over past differences.

He also praised President Tinubu’s policy direction, describing the ongoing reforms as bold and foundational. According to him, the policies being implemented have laid a strong base for future administrations and cannot easily be reversed.
