2027 Election: Tinubu Can Be Defeated With Strong Opposition Oversight of INEC — Momodu

Former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can be defeated in the 2027 general election if opposition parties ensure rigorous monitoring of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and present candidates with sufficient political strength.

Momodu stated this during a televised interview on Thursday, arguing that electoral defeat of the incumbent president is achievable under a transparent and professionally managed process.

According to him, the perception that President Tinubu is politically invincible is unfounded, noting that close scrutiny of the electoral process and credible opposition mobilisation could significantly alter electoral outcomes.

He stressed that the opposition must field candidates capable of mounting a formidable challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that electoral success depends not only on popularity but also on organisational capacity and vigilance.

Momodu, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said the ADC has a strong pool of experienced political figures capable of challenging the ruling party.

He named former Sokoto State governor and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; former Federal Capital Territory minister and former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai; and former Rivers State governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as notable figures within the party.

The politician further noted that the ADC already includes two of the top three candidates from the last presidential election, referencing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi.

According to him, effective internal coordination within the party could translate into substantial electoral support capable of threatening the APC’s dominance.

Momodu maintained that globally, elections tend to be credible and peaceful when electoral institutions operate transparently and professionally, adding that Nigeria is no exception if proper safeguards are enforced.
