I Never Declared Presidential Ambition — Datti Baba-Ahmed
Former vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed has dismissed claims that he recently announced plans to contest the presidency, describing the reports as inaccurate and misleading.
Speaking during a televised interview, Baba-Ahmed clarified that his recent comments were misinterpreted, noting that he merely reaffirmed his continued membership of his political party amid ongoing national political discussions.
He acknowledged that while political possibilities could emerge in the future, no declaration or formal decision regarding a presidential bid has been made.
According to him, the speculation gained traction after sections of the media and social platforms portrayed his remarks as an indication of ambition ahead of the next general election.
Baba-Ahmed explained that any declaration of interest would only come after the release of the electoral timetable and the activation of internal party processes for aspirants.
He also criticised the role of social media in spreading sensational narratives, urging professional media organisations to uphold accuracy and serve as a buffer against misinformation.
