AFCON 2025: FG Clears Super Eagles’ Group-Stage Bonuses

The Federal Government has settled all outstanding group-stage bonuses owed to Nigeria’s national football team at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, easing tensions that had threatened to distract the squad’s campaign.

The clearance followed coordinated efforts between relevant government authorities and monetary regulators to fast-track payment processes and address foreign exchange bottlenecks that had delayed disbursements.

The intervention came after reports emerged that players were yet to receive bonuses for multiple group-stage victories, raising concerns over possible disruptions to training activities and travel plans ahead of a crucial knockout-stage fixture.

Government officials explained that new administrative measures were introduced to prevent a recurrence of payment delays that have historically affected national teams at international tournaments. The reforms are designed to ensure predictability, transparency, and alignment with international standards.

All group-stage bonuses have now been fully processed and cleared through regulatory channels. In addition, a fast-track conversion system has been activated to enable payments in foreign currency, based on the players’ preferences.

Transfers to the players’ domiciliary accounts are currently underway, with officials confirming that funds are expected to reflect within a short time frame.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to prioritising the welfare and morale of the team as the Super Eagles progress deeper into the competition, stressing that off-field issues should not undermine on-field performance.
