ADC Sets Up Constitution Review Committee

The African Democratic Congress has inaugurated a high-powered committee to review its constitution, as part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy and modernise party structures.

The committee, chaired by a senior legal practitioner, was tasked with developing a framework that promotes inclusiveness, transparency, accountability, and efficiency across all levels of the party.

Party leadership said the review exercise is timely, given the organisation’s expanding national role and its emergence as a coalition platform for opposition forces ahead of the next general election cycle.

The committee’s mandate includes reassessing provisions on party organs, membership rights, internal elections, dispute resolution mechanisms, and disciplinary procedures to ensure fairness and credibility.

It will also examine areas related to women, youth, and persons with disabilities to improve participation and equity within the party.

Members of the committee were urged to engage widely with stakeholders across the country and align proposed amendments with democratic best practices and existing electoral laws.

An interim report, along with recommended amendments, is expected to be submitted within a stipulated period.
