Three Points Are What Count – Ndidi Reacts to Eagles’ AFCON Win Over Tanzania

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has urged Nigerians to remain calm following Nigeria’s opening victory over Tanzania at the Africa Cup of Nations, stressing that securing maximum points was the priority.

Reflecting on the encounter, Ndidi described opening matches at major tournaments as notoriously difficult, often testing a team’s rhythm, fitness, and mental sharpness.

He noted that while the performance was not flawless, the objective was achieved.

According to the midfielder, the team approached the match with focus, understanding that early games are rarely straightforward. He acknowledged that the players needed time to settle into the competition but emphasized that the win laid a solid foundation.

Nigeria controlled large portions of the first half of the match, dictating tempo and showing attacking intent in a contest that ended 2–1 in their favour.

However, the second half proved more demanding as Tanzania applied pressure and disrupted Nigeria’s flow. Despite the challenge, the Super Eagles showed composure and resilience to see out the result.

Ndidi admitted the team dropped in intensity after the break but praised the collective response and fighting spirit displayed by the squad.

Addressing concerns about Nigeria’s recent defensive record, the midfielder dismissed any alarm, insisting results matter most at tournament level.

Looking ahead, he expressed confidence in the squad’s potential, stating that the team is capable of matching or even exceeding its recent continental achievements.
