APC Chieftain Urges PDP to Reorganise or Consider Merger With ADC

A senior figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Farouk Aliyu, has advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to urgently reorganise or consider merging with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to remain relevant.

Aliyu made the remarks during a televised interview, arguing that internal divisions within the opposition are weakening Nigeria’s democratic balance.

He suggested that a merger could help revive the PDP, describing it as a strategic move rather than a sign of defeat. According to him, opposition parties must be willing to make concessions if they genuinely seek to strengthen democratic competition.

Aliyu emphasized that members of both the PDP and ADC are respected Nigerians who have contributed significantly to national development, adding that unity would enhance their political impact.

He stressed the importance of a vibrant opposition, noting that democracy thrives when government actions are effectively challenged.

While drawing parallels with the formation of the APC itself, Aliyu reminded viewers that the ruling party emerged from the merger of multiple political groups who set aside differences for a common goal.

Despite ongoing defections from opposition parties, he maintained that the APC is not threatened by competition, stating that governance belongs to the people and not to any individual leader.

He also acknowledged the leadership crisis within the PDP, describing it as a major factor undermining the party’s stability and electoral strength.
