Former PDP National Youth Leader MaiBasira Resigns from Party

Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Hussaini MaiBasira, a former National Youth Leader and National Financial Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has resigned from the party with immediate effect.

In a resignation letter dated December 22, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Tudun Wada South Ward in Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State, MaiBasira expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities it provided him to serve in various national and auxiliary roles.

Describing his decision as difficult and emotionally taxing, MaiBasira said his long-standing loyalty to the party made the move particularly challenging. However, he explained that prevailing political realities and circumstances had compelled him to reconsider his political direction.

He extended goodwill and prayers to members of the PDP at the ward, state, and national levels, assuring them of his continued respect and warm regards despite his exit from the party.

MaiBasira’s resignation is considered a notable development within the PDP, given his influence and previous leadership roles within the party’s youth and political structures nationwide.

While he has not publicly announced his next political destination, political observers note that he is a known ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. It is widely expected that MaiBasira and many of his supporters across the country may align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is positioning itself as a major opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
