Bafarawa Denies Joining APC, Reaffirms Exit from Partisan Politics

Former Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Bafarawa has denied reports claiming he has joined the All Progressives Congress, describing the allegations as false and misleading.

In a statement released on Thursday, Bafarawa said he has no intention of joining the APC or any other political party. He recalled that he formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party in January 2025 as part of a deliberate decision to withdraw from partisan politics.

According to him, his exit from party politics was informed by a desire to focus on youth empowerment and humanitarian initiatives without the constraints or conflicts associated with political affiliation. He stressed that this commitment remains unchanged.

Bafarawa explained that confusion over his political stance may have arisen because some of his supporters have chosen to align with the APC. He said their decision was independent and driven by their assessment of governance in Sokoto State, particularly in the area of security.

He noted that freedom of association allows individuals to make their own political choices and emphasised that his supporters’ actions should not be misconstrued as a reflection of his personal position.

Bafarawa added that although he was a founding member of the APC, he withdrew from the party during its formative stage due to unresolved disagreements. He described claims linking him to current APC activities as the work of mischief makers.
