The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has confirmed an explosion on its Escravos–Lagos pipeline close to Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities in the Gbaramatu Kingdom of Delta State.

In a statement issued by its communications officer, Andy Odeh, the company explained that initial checks revealed a pressure drop consistent with a loss of containment on the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) pipeline.

NNPC noted that the cause of the incident remains unknown, but a detailed investigation is underway to determine what happened.

The company emphasized that its immediate priority is the safety of residents in the affected communities and the protection of the environment. Emergency response procedures have already been activated, with NNPC working closely with authorities and local leaders to mitigate the impact.

The statement added: “NNPC Limited remains committed to the highest safety and environmental standards. Further updates will be provided once more verified information becomes available.”
