FG Reinstates Presidential Council on Tourism to Boost Economic Diversification

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the reinstatement of the Presidential Council on Tourism, a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s tourism, culture, and creative economy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Council provides a high-level national platform to guide strategic leadership for tourism development. Its membership includes the Presidency, the Vice President, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and governors from key tourism-focused states, ensuring improved coordination, unified planning, and a coherent national approach to sectoral growth.

Following the approval, the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his consistent support of the sector. She described tourism and the creative economy as vital pillars for economic diversification, emphasizing that the reinstatement of the Council represents a significant milestone in building stronger institutional frameworks for national tourism development.

“The Council will provide strategic direction for national programmes that create opportunities for youth, strengthen community development, and elevate Nigeria’s global cultural presence,” the Minister said. She added that the body will also guide efforts to attract investment, enhance visitor experiences, develop competitive tourism offerings, and unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s cultural and creative assets.

Minister Musawa reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to implementing transformative initiatives aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the Council’s return signals the Federal Government’s resolve to build a vibrant, job-creating, investment-attracting tourism ecosystem that celebrates Nigeria’s rich cultural identity.

The Ministry also thanked the FEC for the approval and pledged continued dedication to advancing tourism, culture, and the creative economy as key drivers of inclusive national growth.
