The Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, says Governor Ademola Adeleke would have formally announced his move to the Accord Party earlier but decided to wait until the conclusion of the PDP convention in Ibadan to avoid unnecessary tension.

Alimi explained that the governor resigned from the PDP on November 4 and joined Accord two days later, but delayed the public unveiling to prevent any disruption during the convention period. He said the governor’s departure was driven by the deep and persistent leadership crisis within the PDP.

Adeleke’s resignation adds to the growing list of governors and high-profile members who have left the party in recent months. While others have defected to the ruling APC, Adeleke chose the Accord Party, which he said aligns with his governance ideals and vision for Osun State.

Supporters have welcomed his move, with the state government noting that Adeleke’s political direction will not affect his continued support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration. According to Alimi, the governor has always backed the President’s leadership and will maintain that stance under his new party.
