PDP Board of Trustees Meets Amid Ongoing Party Crisis

The lingering crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new turn as the party’s leadership loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike convened a meeting at his official residence. Attendees included Wike, former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, ex-Deputy Speaker Uche Nwuche, Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and Board of Trustees (BoT) members from across the federation.

In his opening remarks, BoT Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa urged members to rise above sentiment and work with unity of purpose. He noted that progress was being made in constituting caretaker committees to lay the foundation for state congresses in areas where they had not yet been held. He emphasized that individuals whose actions threatened party peace had been sanctioned to protect the party from internal subversion and restore confidence nationwide.

Ohuabunwa highlighted that the BoT’s actions reflect a commitment to upholding the rule of law and defending the party constitution. He stressed the importance of consolidating ongoing reforms, deepening internal cohesion, and ensuring the PDP emerges stronger and united. Meanwhile, two factions continue to lay claim to the party leadership, with no court yet ruling on the legitimacy of either side.
