The Premium Trust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon has secured a bronze label certification from World Athletics, marking a major milestone for an event that is only in its second year.

The recognition reflects the rapid rise of the race, which made a strong debut in 2024 and has continued to build momentum. The Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Yetunde Olopade, said the award demonstrates the organisation’s sustained commitment to global standards and professional excellence.

She noted that the team will continue to strengthen its operations and deliver events that meet international expectations. Olopade also expressed appreciation to Premium Trust Bank, describing the sponsor as a key force behind the growth of the Abuja City race and its evolution into a globally recognised competition.

She added that the bank’s investment has helped create a platform that promotes sports development, inspires young people, and stimulates economic activity around the event.

The head of the race’s technical committee, Yusuf Ali, revealed that around 30 elite athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Nigeria are competing this year. The winner of the race will receive $8,000, while prize money for the top eight runners ranges from $500 to $6,000.

There are also special categories, including prizes for Nigerian athletes starting from ₦2 million and a new students’ category with awards up to ₦1 million, supported by Premium Trust Bank’s Managing Director.

Saturday’s race will begin at 6:30 a.m. at the start point opposite the National Federal Fire Service on Muhammadu Buhari Way and will conclude at the Velodrome inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium.
