The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally issued expulsion certificates to 11 prominent politicians, including former governors Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose. The decision was announced after a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, which party leaders described as part of efforts to restore discipline and reposition the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.

National Chairman Kabiru Turaki, SAN, said the expelled members had already been notified via courier and that relevant institutions—including INEC and security agencies—had been informed that the individuals were no longer members of the party. He warned that anyone conducting political activities under the PDP’s name on their behalf does so at personal risk.

Those expelled include Wike, Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN), Abdurahman Muhammad, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah Nnanna, George Turna, and Chief Dan Orbih.

Turaki said the party had reviewed and approved the recently concluded congresses in Osun State and confirmed that the governorship primary was proceeding smoothly, with Governor Ademola Adeleke still in the race despite an unverified resignation letter circulating online.

He criticised the state of national security, arguing that Nigerians live in fear across the country and that the current security structure needs overhaul. He maintained that governors cannot effectively serve as chief security officers without operational control of security agencies.

Turaki also commented on the recent takeover attempt at the PDP national secretariat by a group previously expelled for anti-party activities, calling it an attack on democratic order. He urged the Federal Government to stop interfering in opposition affairs and said the PDP remains committed to offering a credible alternative in the 2027 elections.

The chairman insisted that the strength of the PDP lies not in officeholders but in its grassroots supporters and reaffirmed the party’s readiness to serve as a robust opposition capable of national leadership.
