Fubara to Present 2026 Budget in New Assembly Complex

Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed confidence that he will present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to lawmakers in the newly reconstructed Rivers State House of Assembly complex.

The governor made this known after inspecting the ongoing reconstruction project being handled by Monier Construction Company Limited. He was accompanied by Hon. Boniface Emerengwa, who represents Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, along with the management team of MCC Nigeria Ltd.

Fubara commended the progress of work at the site, noting that the complex is expected to be ready by the end of December 2025. He assured that his administration is committed to completing the project on schedule so that lawmakers can resume sitting in the chamber, where he intends to present the 2026 budget.

The assembly complex had previously been damaged in October 2023 during the political crisis involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Fubara. Reflecting on that period, the governor remarked that despite earlier doubts, significant progress has now been made.

He explained that the contractor has already engaged Julius Berger Nigeria Plc to handle interior and external works in order to accelerate completion. Fubara emphasized that once the main chamber is delivered, the legislature will take responsibility for finishing the remaining parts of the complex.

The governor concluded that the reconstruction marks a return to normalcy, ensuring that Assembly members will once again have a permanent chamber for their legislative duties.
