Siatech Africa Unveils Liberia’s First Fully Solar-Powered Smart City

Siatech Africa has announced the completion of Liberia’s first fully solar-powered smart city, a project the company says represents a major step forward in West Africa’s clean energy and digital-infrastructure drive.

The project, developed in partnership with Huawei and Liberian government agencies, combines renewable power generation with digital connectivity and community-focused innovation. The announcement was made in a statement released on Tuesday by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Olanrewaju Olaniyan.

According to Siatech Africa, the new solar city operates on a smart microgrid system that allows individual neighbourhoods to generate and manage their own electricity while remaining linked to a central network for stability and backup. The system also incorporates load-management tools to reduce waste and minimise outages.

Beyond power supply, the city features an integrated digital backbone designed to connect schools, healthcare centres and local businesses to e-learning, telehealth, and digital enterprise platforms. Olaniyan said the goal is to create communities where clean energy supports broader social and economic development.

“This project is not just about electricity,” he said. “It is about enabling education, supporting healthcare delivery, empowering entrepreneurs and ensuring communities can grow through technology.”

The initiative also includes a vocational and technology training hub where young Liberians receive practical skills in solar engineering, digital infrastructure management, and smart city maintenance. Many of the trainees have already secured employment through the project.

Siatech Africa said it worked with universities, energy authorities and technical institutions to ensure local capacity development and long-term sustainability. The company added that collaboration between government, private-sector players and communities was key to the project’s success.

Following the launch in Liberia, Siatech confirmed that discussions are underway to replicate the model in Ghana and Sierra Leone, positioning the project as a template for renewable energy-led urban development across the region.

“This is a prototype for the continent’s future,” Olaniyan said. “It shows that sustainable growth in Africa can be clean, inclusive and driven by local talent.”
