Customs Reports Over ₦1.2 Billion in Contraband Seizures Over Six Weeks

The Federal Operations Unit, Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced the seizure of contraband goods valued at more than ₦1.2 billion during a six-week anti-smuggling operation. Comptroller Mohammed Shu’aibu disclosed this at a press briefing in Lagos, highlighting increased enforcement activities across the South-West region.

He told reporters that the intensified operations reflect the unit’s commitment to curbing illicit trade and protecting legitimate commerce. The seizures include a variety of smuggled items intercepted during routine patrols and intelligence-led raids.

Shu’aibu also stated that the total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seized goods stood at ₦1.188 billion. He noted that, in addition to confiscations, the customs unit issued demand notices to importers for under-valuation, recovering funds in the process.

He said four suspects were arrested and handed over to relevant enforcement agencies for further investigation. The unit affirmed its resolve to enforce trade regulations and border security, especially under Nigeria’s prohibition on land border importation of foreign parboiled rice.
